As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread in our region, I want to assure you that Garbelman Winslow CPAs is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our team members, their families, our clients and our community.

 

Our firm’s leadership team is actively monitoring the national COVID-19 outbreak and assessing local impacts. We are following recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and regional authorities and sharing these recommendations with our staff so they can protect themselves, their families and our clients against the transmission of this virus.

 

While safety is our primary concern, Garbelman Winslow CPAs has taken steps to ensure continued service to our clients. At this time, Garbelman Winslow's office remains open. If closing our physical location becomes necessary for the safety of our clients, workforce and community, Garbelman Winslow will immediately shift to fully remote operations. Currently, 50% of our workforce is working remotely. Garbelman Winslow's long-time commitment to advanced technologies and a flexible work environment has allowed us to remain available, responsive and agile in this time of uncertainty. During remote operations you will continue to contact and work with your Garbelman Winslow's advisor as you normally would with the exception of in person meetings.

 

While our goal is to maintain the highest level of service during this health crisis, we must remain flexible with our staff who require personal time off due to the spread of the coronavirus. Paycheck Protection Program

 

Here is the guidance on the Paycheck Protection Program and how to apply.  All businesses – including nonprofits, veterans organizations, Tribal business concerns, sole proprietorships, self-employed individuals, and independent contractors – with 500 or fewer employees can apply. Businesses in certain industries can have more than 500 employees if they meet applicable SBA employee-based size standards for those industries.

 

The loan amounts will be forgiven as long as:

  1. The loan proceeds are used to cover payroll costs, and most mortgage interest, rent, and utility costs over the 8 week period after the loan is made; and
  2. Employee and compensation levels are maintained.

 

Payroll costs are capped at $100,000 on an annualized basis for each employee. Due to likely high subscription, it is anticipated that not more than 25% of the forgiven amount may be for non-payroll costs.  Loan payments will be deferred for 6 months and the interest rate is .5% fixed.

 

When can you apply?

  1. Starting April 3, 2020, small businesses and sole proprietorships can apply for and receive loans to cover their payroll and other certain expenses through existing SBA lenders.
  2. Starting April 10, 2020, independent contractors and self-employed individuals can apply for and receive loans to cover their payroll and other certain expenses through existing SBA lenders.

 

Where can you apply? 

We recommend you contact your bank where your business accounts are held to determine their participation in the program.  If they are not participating, then you can go here to find a lending facility. https://www.sba.gov/partners/lenders/microloan-program/list-lenders
